These days, our focus has been on rap music with a unique sound and attitude – often out of step with current sounds and trends but with its own distinctive flex. In 2018 we released S.O.I.L by the rising West London rapper Lord Apex; now he’s cutting tracks with Westside Gunn and going out on tour with Mos Def. The following year saw Wilma Vritra make their debut – a transatlantic collaboration between London-based artist Wilma Archer (Domino) and LA-based rapper Pyramid Vritra (Odd Future/Stones Throw).
The duo’s 2019 collaboration Burd was an ode to chaotic times that won praise from everyone from NPR to Billboard to Bandcamp. And now the label has a new generation of international talent ready to make their mark: Nassau’s Obijuan, LA’s YUNGMORPHEUS, Amsterdam’s Philanthrope and Washington DC’s NAPPYNAPPA and Rahiem Supreme. Bad Taste is always evolving, but the vision is the same as it ever was: to uncover and celebrate new sounds, wherever they’re to be found.
